The first day of
Holy Week is known as Palm Sunday and The Sunday of the Passion.
Palm Sunday "is derived from the custom of a procession of the people
carrying palms in commemoration of Christ's entry into Jerusalem." Passion
Sunday "is derived from the custom of reading one of the Passion Gospels at
the Eucharist of the day." (quoted from the Glossary, Liturgy for
Living) "Passion" is from the Latin passio, "suffering." [This
observance is potentially rich in ceremonial, and for many worshipers the
days Service can be inordinately long.]
